Upgrades to Begin at the Cedar Grove Maple Valley Facility this Fall.

Cedar Grove Composting, Inc. in Maple Valley, Washington is expanding the Gore ™ Cover system this fall. Initiated in May 2003, Cedar Grove built its first unit in anticipation of a growing volume of post-consumer food wastes from local residential and commercial collection programs. These programs support statewide initiatives to divert a higher percentage of trash from landfills and in to recycling programs.

In the Gore ™ Cover system, Cedar Grove fully covers piles of incoming material with Gore ™ fabric as it goes through the first two stages of composting. The fabric covers the active compost piles, minimizing odors and emissions that naturally occur in compost production.

The system was originally set up to handle 25% of the current inbound volume of yardwaste and foodwaste coming in to its facility. With the expansion of post-consumer food waste collection programs throughout the Puget Sound region, the Gore ™ Cover System will be increased to process 85% of the inbound volumes Maple Valley currently receives by the spring of 2005.
