Biodegradable items have been increasing in popularity in the Puget Sound Region and across the country. Our goal, as part of the recycling loop, is to increase the acceptability of biodegradables into our facilities while still maintaining our high quality product. Therefore we have conducted testing on several biodegradable items, resulting in a list of biodegradable products that are now accepted at all Cedar Grove facilities.

These items range from bags and bin liners to food service items such as utensils and plates. While we already have a list of acceptable items, new products are constantly being developed and we would like to be able to accept a wide variety of biodegradables at our facilities. To keep up with the biodegradable industry, we will continually be testing and adding accepted items to our lists.

To submit biodegradable items for testing please follow these guidelines:

• Include three (3) to five (5) samples of each item submitted with an Identification Number written on at least one of the samples.
   
• Fill out completely a Profile sheet for all groups of items submitted. A $250 fee will be charged for all groups of items submitted (Maximum 10 different items per group)
   
• All items submitted must have BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) certification OR meet ASTM D6400 or ASTM 6868 (coated paper products) standards.  Items without this certification or confirmation of passing the test will not be tested.

• In the comments section on the Profile sheet, please provide locations where the items can be purchased (stores, nurseries, etc.)
  
  
• NOTE: For greater efficiency, samples must be received by the following deadline in order to be tested in the next batch.
      July 1st, 2008
      November 1st, 2008
      January 1st, 2009
  
  Testing results are available 90-120 days after deadline date(s) shown above.
