Since the 1980's, Cedar Grove Composting has played a key role in transforming our communities' waste into a premium, recycled product. From its beginning, Cedar Grove Composting has worked hand-in-hand with local governments to aggressively deliver yard waste recycling solutions. In response to state and local initiatives encouraging intensive recycling programs, Cedar Grove Composting was awarded a contract to compost Seattle's yard trimmings.
As a result:
- The residential program was immediately popular with its customers, so much so that we processed more than twice the expected volumes in 1989.
- Now, Cedar Grove has a yard waste recycling contract with the City of Seattle, plus receives the yard waste collections from many cities and municipalities within King and Snohomish Counties.
- By 2002, Cedar Grove had processed nearly 2 million tons of yard trimmings.
Now, Cedar Grove Composting operates the largest single dedicated yard waste composting facility in the United States. We have invested heavily in technology
(See Technology: Making a Difference) to make the premium compost our customers enjoy. Our Maple Valley facility uses aerated static pile composting technology from the Netherlands. Now, as we expand our compost sales into Oregon, we are adapting new technology from Germany to make
Cedar Grove Compost even better, while giving us the flexibility to locate large-scale composting facilities throughout the Northwest.
